DETAILS

One Buchanan and OutCenter Southwest Michigan are presenting a forum on the state of LGBTQ+ civil rights in Michigan on Saturday, April 6, 11-12:30 at the Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson Street, Buchanan Michigan. We have two excellent speakers presenting at the forum: Jay Kaplan, LGBTQ+ Rights Project Staff Attorney with ACLU of Michigan, and Emme Zanotti, Director of Advocacy & Civic Engagement with Equality Michigan. There are significant recent advances to report, such as the extension of the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act protections to the LGBTQ+ community, and other issues on the near-term horizon to address. Ms. Zanotti and Mr. Kaplan will provide important information on the following topics: 1. Current Status of LGBTQ+ Rights in Michigan 2. What’s at stake in the 2024 elections and the role of local elections 3. Importance of local politics, school board, county commissions, public libraries, etc. 4. Calls to Action
